Wind energy

The increasing rate of the depletion of conventional energy sources and the degradation of environmental conditions has given rise to an increased emphasis on renewable energy sources such as wind, solar, mini/micro hydro-electric, biogas, etc.

Most scientists consider the wind energy is the most important renewable energy source because its cost per KWh is cheap when compared with other kinds of renewable energy sources such as solar energy systems; also the wind is available during most hours of the day.

The development of suitable isolated power generators driven by wind turbines has recently assumed greater significance. Self-excited induction generator has emerged as a suitable candidate of isolated power sources because of its widely known advantages.

The principle of self-excitation, by which an isolated induction generator can be excited from terminal capacitance, is well known.
